INDIANAPOLIS—Indiana University’s Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center recently received $15,000 from Victor Oladipo, a former student and basketball player. The donation came from Oladipo’s winnings at the recent Dunk Cancer social media fundraiser as part of the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend. The money will go toward the center’s breast cancer research program, which, among other avenues of research, will be studying triple-negative breast cancer in a clinical trial this year evaluating the simultaneous use of two new drugs to attack highly active genes. Researchers have also found a gene linked to late recurrence of breast cancer and are searching for druggable targets.
“It’s an honor and a blessing to be able to give back first and foremost to the Indiana University family,” said Oladipo. “I felt it was my duty and obligation to give back to this community. What better way to do it than through cancer research.”
