Fornace Laboratory named a Waters Center of Innovation
MILFORD, Mass.óWaters Corp. recently announced that the metabolomics program at Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC), the Albert J. Fornace Laboratory, has joined Waters' Centers of Innovation Program. Waters also recognized Prof. Albert J. Fornace Jr. and Amrita Cheema, the program's directors, at the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in Washington, D.C. Fornace, professor of oncology at Georgetown Lombardi, was recognized for his research on stress signaling in molecular oncology and other diseases. Metabolomics data from the Fornace Laboratory's Waters ACQUITY UPLC and Xevo G2 QTof LC-MS systems will contribute to the Georgetown Database of Cancer, a project that has gathered metabolomics data from 4,000 breast cancer patients to study what leads some patients to relapse. In a press release, Fornace noted that metabolomics is "a demanding area of science," adding that the lab is "very pleased Waters has taken an interest in our research."
