Horizon obtains license to panel of human isogenic cell models from Pitt
April 2011

CAMBRIDGE, U.K.óHorizon Discovery announced that it recently secured worldwide exclusive rights to a panel of new human isogenic cell models developed by Dr. Jian Yu and Dr. Lin Zhang of the University of Pittsburgh. The panel includes an isogenic cell-model for a key human non-coding RNA gene-expression regulator called miRNA21, which is implicated in several cancers. This cell model will aid researchers in understanding miRNA21 as well as help in studying the gene-regular as a therapeutic target. The initial duration of the license with the University of Pittsburgh is five years, and includes upfront fees as well as ongoing royalty fees on product sales.

"Horizon's license of the Pitt cell models will help to enable broad availability and use of these important tools for basic research and drug development," says Dr. Marc S. Malandro, associate vice chancellor for technology management and commercialization at the University of Pittsburgh.
