GSK to invest in new jobs, manufacturing facility

SHARING OPTIONS:
MIDDLESEX, U.K.—GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK) has announced
plans to invest more than $790 million in its U.K. manufacturing sites with the
creation of as many as 1,000 new jobs. GSK will be investing $553 million in
the construction of a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility to be located in
Ulverston, Cumbria, and construction on the new facility will begin in 2014 or
2015. GSK will invest $158 million in its two Scottish manufacturing sites, and
$126 million at its sites in Ware in Hertfordshire and Barnard Castle in County
Durham.
Andrew Witty, CEO of GSK, said the Ulverston facility will
be GSK’s “first new U.K. factory for almost 40 years,” and the company is
“actively considering other investments in our U.K. manufacturing network.” Back |
