Combination regimens vs. antibiotic resistance
December 2018
SHARING OPTIONS:

LONDON—A new collaboration is underway between Helperby Therapeutics Ltd. and Dr. Pamela Yeh and her lab at the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The partners will look into combining antibiotics as a way of combatting antimicrobial-resistant bacteria. Recent research from Yeh demonstrated that combining two or more antibiotics can offer emergent synergy against pathogenic Escherichia coli, with a greater frequency of synergy seen when more drugs were used in combination. Helperby, Yeh and colleagues will share data and research methodology in an effort to evaluate the potential of other antibiotic combinations.

“In my opinion, Dr. Yeh’s team’s recent observations could be the most important breakthrough in the fight against antibiotic resistance,” said Prof. Anthony Coates, founder and chief scientific officer, Helperby.
