A pair of glaucoma projects
November 2018
SHARING OPTIONS:

TORONTO—MaRS Innovation recently shared news of a second project to be developed under the auspices of its LAB150 partnership with Evotec, which was established last year. The project will focus on the development of a novel therapeutic approach to treating glaucoma, based on research out of the lab of Dr. Jeremy Sivak, senior scientist at The University Health Network’s Krembil Research Institute. Sivak, his team and collaborators at the University of California, Berkeley, discovered a lipoxin with neuroprotective properties and efficacy in preclinical glaucoma models. They—along with Dr. Mark Reed, a medicinal chemist at the Krembil Research Institute, and Evotec scientists—will work to identify potent, selective compounds that can target this lipoxin in hopes of developing new drugs.

“This strategic partnership will give us the help we need to develop the first neuroprotective treatment for glaucoma patients,” said Sivak.
